A few words by the Director

According to the composer, the purpose of The Magic Flute is to transform human passions and emotions, to make melancholy human beings cheerful and misogynists fall in love.

Mozart’s philosophical will, written in a Shakesperian language of ghosts, spirits and visions, is imbued with deep symbolism that is designed to preserve the secrets of masonry from the layman. Many unanswered questions remain.

Mozart was not particularly religious, but his fervour was quite enthusiastic when he acted as a wiseman to present the metaphysical existence of danger and of the conspiracy devised by “dark forces”. Everything revolves around two dominating human passions: hatred and the need for revenge on the one hand and love and forgiveness on the other.

Our world is rife with chaos. It is a maze where we try to make sense of our lives through our illusions and our errors.
We all have an existential labyrinth we must get through in the course of our lives; it is our journey towards knowledge and liberation. The labyrinth is also a masonic myth, it is the place where the material and spiritual worlds meet. This opposition marks the distinction between good and evil and it becomes an indispensable, vital complement.

Maria Sartova
