A few words by the Director

To Soren Kierkegaard, Don Giovanni is the only instance where the “genius of sensuality” can be found in music. As far as the protagonists of Mozart’s operas are concerned, Kierkegaard points out the passage of desire not yet awakened (Cherubino) and of desire being discovered (Papageno) to the climactic pleasure of desire (Don Giovanni).

The plot is set in two worlds, that of human beings who are subjected to the rules of society and who seek moral support in love and in religion, and a decadent world where there are no such things as morals or sins and where the pure joy of sensuality is celebrated.

At the forefront of my stage direction there are everyday women. Donna Elvira, a mosochistic and sentimental victim, Zerlina, a cunning coquette, and Donna Anna, whose proper education forces her to hide her true passions. With the full force of his vital erotic energy, Don Giovanni pushes forward with individual freedom where there can be no dialogue between good and evil.
